TORONTO — For the first time in a decade and a half, the Buffalo Sabres took the ice with out Lindy Ruff behind the bench. In Ron Rolston's first game as an NHL head coach, the Sabres were in Toronto against the Maple Leafs.

Tyler Ennis made it 1-0 Sabres in the 1st on a pass from Drew Stafford. It was the last time the Sabres would find the net.

In the 2nd, Dion Phaneuf tied the game 1-1 on a power play goal. Later in the period, Phil Kessel passed to James Van Riemsdyk to make it 1-2 Leafs.

Toronto added a goal in the 3rd.

Rolston starts off with a 3-1 loss. The Sabres are now 6-11-1 and host the Islanders on Saturday.
