The award, which is presented by U.S. Soccer, is the highest honor for soccer players in the United States. Votes were compiled from online voting and national media.
The 23-year-old leads all U.S. scorers with 28 goals this year.
Rochester's Abby Wambach, who was nominated this year, has won five Athlete of the Year awards; most recently, in the last two years.
