Bills Young DEs May Be Diamonds in the Rough

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — After releasing Shawne Merriman, Bills General Manager Buddy Nix noted what he sees on the roster that makes the move possible.

"We have two good guys that are young and a couple of them that fit the scheme," said Nix.

When given the names of Eddins and Moore, Nix said "I would rather not name them. We have a bunch of them out there working."

The two young players Nix is referring to are believed to be Robert Eddins and Kyle Moore. Eddins is listed second, behind Mario Williams on the depth chart. The Ball State product was signed as an undrafted free agent last year, made the opening day roster, but finished the year on the practice squad.

"There's just so many good guys in the room. We just want to compete. We knew there was a lot of competition coming in. Worrying about guys getting released and things like that is not a big talk," Eddins said.

The Bills are hoping they've found a diamond in the rough in 6'6" USC product Kyle Moore. The 25-year-old was originally a 4th round pick of Tampa Bay. He joined the Bills in time to play the final four games last year and recorded 4 tackles.

"I'm a hungry end. I was cut last year and this year I have a good opportunity to make this team, and I won't give it back for no reason," said Moore.

"The young guys are stepping up playing good. They see a lot in them. I see a lot in them as well. So we'll see what happens. The future looks bright," said linebacker Nick Barnett.

Adding to the Bills collection of young defensive ends is 6'5" Jarron Gilbert, who started training camp as a defensive tackle. He's very much in the mix of what is definitely the position battle to watch.
