Georgia is on the minds of the UB football team. They face the Bulldogs in the quickly approaching season opener on September 1.
The preparation kicks into full gear for Jeff Quinn's club with preseason practices beginning Monday at UB's Kickoff Luncheon at the Millenium Hotel in Cheektowaga.
"Our team is a better team, we've got better talent, we've recruited better talent, you've heard that," Quinn said. "We've been able to develop our talent. Now, it's time to go play."
Former Bills general manager Bill Polian was keynote speaker at the luncheon. He sees similarities in the Bills' commitment to success during his tenure in the Super Bowl years to the current foundation at UB.
"The great thing about the Bulls is that they've been there, done that," Polian told members of the media. "They've been to a bowl game, they've put players in the national football league. They put a team on the field that wa s a championship caliber team. It can be done."
Polian knows his fair share about winning football. The former Bills, Panthers and Colts executive will be added to the Wall of Fame at Ralph Wilson Stadium this season.
"It's hard to think of myself in terms of the people that are up there," Polian said. It's amazing... being part of that was a really an incredible experience, one that I've never forgotten and will never forget."
As for his take on the current Bills teams, Polian believes fans have reason to be excited.
"You have to hit some bumps in the road and overcome them before you become a bonafide Super Bowl contender," Polian said. "You don't just say it, you have to do it. But there's no question in my mind they're on the right path.
A positive outlook for the Bills and the Bulls, from a man who's seen it all when it comes to the gridiron.
