Parents and educators had a chance to learn more Monday about a proposed charter high school in the Rochester City School District. Administrators from a Chicago-based program spent some time in Rochester to answer questions about their proposed school model.

Pritzker College Prep wants to open a charter high school in Rochester. It's been open in Chicago for seven years and is considered one of the highest performing high schools in the Chicago Public School District. Ninety seven percent of its students are below the poverty line.

It believes in consistent discipline, culture, and teachers with both professional and personal successes.

Pritzker says 100 percent of its students are accepted into four-year colleges.

"Really, the difference is if you have that expectation, the student will meet it. If you do not have the expectation or it is lower or you do not enforce it and there is not a set consequence known by all parties when they make a choice, then they are not going to meet it. It is that consistency so there is no guesswork. We try to minimize all those gray areas," said Lauren Casty, assistant principal.

The next open house is Monday, April 18th at the Central Library on South Avenue from 3 - 5 p.m.

If Pritzker is granted a charter by the SUNY Board of Trustees, it plans to open the new charter school to freshman next fall.
