A visit from top brass today for Rochester's Veterans Outreach Center. The New York State commander of the American Legion is in town. He's visiting the Outreach Center on South Avenue.

It was an opportunity for Commander Timothy VanPatten to see firsthand just what the Rochester Veterans Outreach Center does. The facility is considered one of the best in the nation.

VanPatten was joined by a delegations of American Legion Post members in touring the outreach center. He learned about the various programs the center offers veterans, helping them reenter society following combat deployments overseas.

"Government says we're going to take care of you when you get back, and it's not the case sometimes, so we're glad to have facilities like this," VanPatten said.

"The American Legion is a huge proponent for veterans issues on the Hill, and the Veterans Outreach Center is the recipient of that legislation on this end where we get to deliver those programs and services to our Veteran population here in the Rochester community," said Gary Yaple, Veterans Outreach Center.

The VOC is marking its 40th anniversary. It's preparing to serve even more vets as the combat mission in Afghanistan winds down.
