They revved their engines, put their helmets on and off they went.

"I love snowmobiling," Mike Farrow told YNN.

Milder weather previously left annual picnic plans for the Webster Ridge Runners high and dry.

"We didn't have the chance to do one last year due to weather and this year we've had to postpone a number of times," said Christopher Burns with the Webster Ridge Runners.

The annual event is usually held every January. Some people were counting down the days.

"I love getting outside in the snow. I've always loved the snow even as a kid," Farrow said.

It was a father-daughter date for the Farrows. They grabbed their gear and whisked through trails and courses. His daughter Lauren is already in love with the sport.

A series of competitions were set up and trophies were handed out in the end. Riders re-loaded during the picnic with hot dogs and hamburgers sizzling on the grill. People as young as three and as old as 80 got to take part.

"He's a senior citizen but still enjoys snowmobiling. His whole family is into it, so it's really something that is passed on through generations," Burns said.

After waiting for the snow, the old saying was true. You can plan the picnic, but you can't predict the weather. For these snowmobilers on a sunny Sunday afternoon, these trails were worth the wait.
