  • Text size: + -

The Rochester Police Department, Fire Department and the Emergency Communications Office gave an overview of incidents for 2012 Tuesday morning.

The Emergency Communications Department said it responded to more than 1.1 million calls. That's up more than 49,000 from 2011.

The Rochester police department said it investigated 31 homicides which was a decrease from 36 the previous year. The department reported an increase in robberies and rapes from 2011 to 2012.

The Rochester Fire Department reported 10 fatal fires in 2012 after no fatalities the two previous years. Of those 10 fatalities, 6 were intentionally set fires. The Rochester Fire department said total arson fires solved were more than 20% higher than the state average of 10% to 15%.

“In the end Public safety is a community issue. A lot of these numbers will influenced by the way people reacts to them and what the community does about them," said Rochester Mayor Tom Richards.

The Mayor said it was appropriate that all three agencies report together because they all have to work together and one directly impacts the other.
