Young women gathered Tuesday to learn about environmental conservation.

More than 80 seventh grade students from Rochester's Young Women's College Preparatory School participated in "One Ocean, One People." The program is a hands-on case study on water preservation.

Hosted by deep ocean explorer Fabien Cousteau, the event focused on the ocean and why it is important to take care of it.

Cousteau says water is the connecting force between all groups of people.

Cousteau said, "social media connects most of us, but water connects us all, and the health of our water planet, our circulatory system of all life that we know is paramount for our own health and our own survival."

The event was sponsored by Time Warner Cable's "Connect a Million Minds" program, which aims to inspire youth by connecting them with science, technology, and engineering opportunities. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
