Democrat incumbent Greg McCaffrey wins a full term as Livingston County DA, after just a five-month incumbency in the seat. McCaffrey was appointed to the position just this past spring by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The last time Livingston County residents voted-in a Democratic DA was back in the 1800s, so the result was certainly a surprise to that end.

But none of the candidates were taken aback much by the result, partly due to the fact that this was a three-way race.

The Republican primary for DA, of course, ended in a tie between Eric Schiener and Steve Sessler. Republicans eventually picked Schiener as their candidate. But Sessler stayed on the ballot and actively campaigned as a Conservative.

The numbers are clear: Sessler's candidacy appears to have affected the vote enough to keep Schiener out-of-office, assuming conservatives would have gone for Schiener if Sessler had not run.

Both Schiener and Sessler admit: the situation likely led to their demise. McCaffrey meanwhile, is an ecstatic winner.

Schiener and Sessler both vaguely spoke about re-grouping and moving forward. When we asked specifically about any plans for future political runs, both men backed down. They wouldn't rule it out – but tonight and for the near future, both are content to take a break from the political scene.
