The University of Rochester YellowJackets have a concert coming up this weekend where they will be singing on stage alongside some of the other a capella groups they met on the hit show, The Sing Off.
In between performances, the group shares their talent with students at the World of Inquiry School.
Musical Director Matt Carlin told YNN about a program the former music director started in the inner city schools. Carlin said the goal of the program is to try to bring kids together and give them a reason to stay in school.
"We all thought over the summer when we traveled to Kenya, music has a really interesting way of affecting people's lives. So the goal of this was essentially to try and get students to stay in school," said Carlin.
Some of proceeds of the upcoming show will go to benefit a student the group met while mentoring, Sammy. Sammy was recently diagnosed with cancer. Carlin said the concert is an attempt to make his life better and help him get through his battle.
The concert will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 15th, in Kodak Hall at the Eastman Theatre.
